2013 CIMB Classic Has Best Field Yet Thanks To FedEx Cup Points On The Line

CIMB ClassicThere are a bunch of firsts this year at the 2013 CIMB Classic. It’s the first time that the tournament is being played at Kuala Lumpur Golf Club, it’s the first time that a Masters invitation will be awarded to the winner, and it’s the first time that it will be an official FedEx Cup points event.

The end result is that the field from top-to-bottom is bringing out many more notable names overall than in years past. Sure, Tiger Woods played in the 2012 CIMB Classic, but on the whole the field is every bit as strong, and likely stronger even without Woods in the field for the 2013 edition. Continue reading

PGA Tour Adopts Wraparound Schedule For 2013-14 Season

PGA TourPlayers and fans of the PGA Tour will be in for a much different type of season over the coming calendar year. It starts with the fact that there really isn’t an offseason like there has been in the past. That’s because the PGA Tour made the move to label the six events in the fall and winter as official FedEx Cup events.

Rather than having the new season start in January in Hawaii, the PGA Tour season will actually cover two calendar years going forward in a wraparound set up. In fact, the 2013-14 season already got underway last week with the Frys.com Open. Continue reading

PGABettingOdds.com’s 2013 PGA Tour Player Of The Year: Phil Mickelson

Phil MickelsonWe’re a little bit late on the Player Of The Year voting on the PGA Tour, and are aware that Tiger Woods was named the winner. It’s hard to argue with that, as Woods won five times on the season, including the PLAYERS Championship and two World Golf Championship events.

But we want to argue the case for another player. That would be Phil Mickelson, who very surprisingly has never won the Player of the Year on the PGA Tour before. That’s thanks in large part to the man who won it against in 2013. Continue reading

Henrik StensonThe second-to-last playoff event in the 2013 FedEx Cup playoffs get going this week, as players try to get themselves into position for the Tour Championship in Atlanta in two weeks.

The top-70 players in the FedEx Cup point standings are in the field this week, with more than half the field cut by the conclusion of Sunday at the BMW Championship. There will only be 30 players in the field at the Tour Championship, though every player in the field will have an opportunity to win the FedEx Cup if the right things fall into place. For the top-five, they would control their own destiny with a win at the Tour Championship giving them the FedEx Cup title. Continue reading

The players get a week off to rest, as the field will go from 100 players down to 70 players for the BMW Championship starting on September 12.

Of course, all that players are trying to move towards is a position in the top-five for the Tour Championship. Continue reading

Adam Scott Wins The Barclays For First Win Since Masters; Tiger Injures Back

Adam ScottThere are several things to take away from the playing of the first FedEx Cup playoff event this past weekend at The Barclays. Obviously the first should be Adam Scott winning the event, getting his second victory of the season.

This win for Scott probably meant quite a bit, because while he has been in contention plenty since winning the Masters in April, he hasn’t been back in the winner’s circle. The victory is a nice complement to that Masters win in which he was moving on from the first Major championship win. Continue reading

It’s The Start Of The 2013 FedEx Cup Playoffs!

FedEx CupPatrick Reed won the Wyndham Championship on Sunday and jumped from No.78 to No.22 in the FedEx Cup rankings. His win couldn’t have come at a better time, with the start of the FedEx Cup playoffs getting underway this week with The Barclays.

Reed’s jump up the ladder by more than 50 spots would put him into the Tour Championship if the standings were to end today. But of course, things are just about to heat up with the number of points on the line for a FedEx Cup playoff win increasing tenfold. Continue reading

2013 Major Championships In The Bag; Reflecting On The Year That Was

Jason DunferThe four Major Championships for the 2013 PGA Tour season are in the books, and for the fifth-straight year none of the winners include Tiger Woods.

Woods came in with high hopes to the PGA Championship at Oak Hill this past week, fresh off of dominating the WGC Bridgestone Invitational the week before that included a round of 61 on Friday. None of that momentum carried over into the PGA Championship though, as the No.1 ranked player in the world was never a factor. Continue reading
