Tiger Woods Falls To No.2 In The FedEx Up Points Standings; Henrik Stenson New No.1

Tiger Woods has held the lead in the FedEx Cup points standings for the majority of the season, but the win by Henrik Stenson at the Deutsche Bank Championship on Labor Day vaulted him into the No.1 position.

The players get a week off to rest, as the field will go from 100 players down to 70 players for the BMW Championship starting on September 12.

Of course, all that players are trying to move towards is a position in the top-five for the Tour Championship. Continue reading

Adam Scott Wins The Barclays For First Win Since Masters; Tiger Injures Back

Adam ScottThere are several things to take away from the playing of the first FedEx Cup playoff event this past weekend at The Barclays. Obviously the first should be Adam Scott winning the event, getting his second victory of the season.

This win for Scott probably meant quite a bit, because while he has been in contention plenty since winning the Masters in April, he hasn’t been back in the winner’s circle. The victory is a nice complement to that Masters win in which he was moving on from the first Major championship win. Continue reading

It’s The Start Of The 2013 FedEx Cup Playoffs!

FedEx CupPatrick Reed won the Wyndham Championship on Sunday and jumped from No.78 to No.22 in the FedEx Cup rankings. His win couldn’t have come at a better time, with the start of the FedEx Cup playoffs getting underway this week with The Barclays.

Reed’s jump up the ladder by more than 50 spots would put him into the Tour Championship if the standings were to end today. But of course, things are just about to heat up with the number of points on the line for a FedEx Cup playoff win increasing tenfold. Continue reading

2013 Major Championships In The Bag; Reflecting On The Year That Was

Jason DunferThe four Major Championships for the 2013 PGA Tour season are in the books, and for the fifth-straight year none of the winners include Tiger Woods.

Woods came in with high hopes to the PGA Championship at Oak Hill this past week, fresh off of dominating the WGC Bridgestone Invitational the week before that included a round of 61 on Friday. None of that momentum carried over into the PGA Championship though, as the No.1 ranked player in the world was never a factor. Continue reading

Phil MickelsonThe ultimate measure of a golfer at the end of their careers are the performances in the Major Championships. But even within that, what can separate the great golfers from the greatest golfers of all-time are the well-rounded performances in Major Championships. In other words, not just how many Majors a player won, but of how many of the four Major Championships did they capture a victory. Continue reading

Players Have Just 6 Events Left to Get Inside Top-125 on FedEx Cup Points List

FedEx CupEntering the John Deere Classic this week there are just six event left for players to accumulate enough FedEx Cup points to get inside the top-125 to qualify for the first event on the playoff schedule.

But that is certainly enough time for players to get in and stamp their ticket. Just look at what winning the Greenbrier did for Jonas Blixt this past week. Blixt moved up 100 spots in the FedEx Cup standings from 139th to 39th. That would not only get in into the playoffs, but if he stayed there he would make it all the way to the second-to-last playoff event prior to the Tour Championship where the cut is the top-30. Tiger Out At AT&T National With Elbow Injury, Justin Rose Withdraws As Well

tiger-elbowSome PGA Tour fans might be asking this week, ‘where’s Tiger?’

The AT&T National benefitting the Tiger Woods foundation is an annual stop on the PGA Tour at Congressional Country Club. But Woods actually won’t in the field this week, due to an elbow strain he suffered a few weeks back, and aggravated again in the U.S. Open. Woods is typically in the field, but his absence will be noticeable and disappointing.

We won’t see Woods compete until the 2013 British Open from Muirfield beginning on July 18th. That means that it will be roughly a month in between starts for the No.1 ranked player in the world, and back-to-back majors. That is of course unless he opts to change up his schedule to get a tournament in within these next couple of weeks, though unlikely. Continue reading
