Should The PLAYERS Championship Become The 5th Major?

PLAYERS ChampionshipWe have the Masters, U.S Open, British Open, and the PGA Championship. Then we have the World Golf Championships that take place throughout the season, as well as the FedEx Cup Playoffs that occur at the the end of the year. And then there’s the PLAYERS Championship. Often thought of as unofficially the ‘5th Major’, the PLAYERS Championship is essentially in a category all it’s own.

The PLAYERS Championship is known as the signature event on the PGA Tour, given the fact that it is played at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra, Florida, where it just so happens to be the world headquarters of the Tour. Continue reading

Can Phil Mickelson And Tiger Woods Carry Early 2013 Success Into Majors Later This Year?

Tiger Woods And Phil MickelsonThe victory by Phil Mickelson on Sunday at TPC Scottsdale still proves that Lefty is as good as it gets when he turns it on. A brush with a 59 on Thursday, followed by a wire-to-wire victory proved just that.

Mickelson won early in 2012 though as well, and from there went on to have a very mediocre year by his standards. He wasn’t in real contention in the Major championships, and now it is coming up on three years since Mickelson won his last Major championship at the 2012 Masters. Continue reading

2012 Masters First Round Scoring Props

As the 2012 Masters at Augusta National kicks off full swing this week, fans will generally acknowledge that they kind of know what to expect from the participants by now. After the way he flamed out last year, we are all well aware of what Rory McIlroy is like at both his best and at his worst. Similarly, given everything we’ve seen from Tiger Woods over the last few years, we are fully aware of what he looks like when he’s on his game (see: the Arnold Palmer Invitational) and when he’s off his game (see: every tournament he played in for two and a half years before the Arnold Palmer Invitational).
